There is a slight modification of the UI, but the OS is mostly the stock version of Android.

HMD announces Nokia 3310 3G

Image
Nokia 3310 (2017) was a massive hit after its announcement in the beginning of 2017. The joy was cut somewhat short after HMD told everyone the phone does not support 3G networks. This meant fans in the US and other countries that are in the process of disabling 2G wouldn't get the phone. This is about to change now, though. The Finnish company just unveiled the Nokia 3310 3G with new colors, new user interface and, as the name suggests, a 3G radio.

And Sony may join this design trend with a new device “soon”.

The change is being rolled out to a small group of users right now and will be available to everyone soon. In its blog post, Twitter explained how most users were frequently running into the 140 character limit. This was especially common to English speaking users, who would eventually have to split their thoughts into two or more tweets chained together as replies.

Truecaller adds SMS spam filtering functionality on iOS

Image
Truecaller has updated its iOS app to add support for SMS filtering. After updating to the latest version the app will attempt to filter spam messages and separate it into a second folder. The addition of this feature is courtesy a new feature in iOS 11 that enables third party applications to filter incoming messages and sort them into a separate SMS Junk tab that appears in the Messages app when you use an app that lets you filter messages. Watch the iPhone 8 get scratched, burned and bent

Image
The iPhone 8 is the newest phone to come out of Apple and as is the tradition, it must go through the Internet's torture test. More specifically, the JerryRigEverything durability test where phones get scratched, burned, bent and generally go through hell. The iPhone 8, however, survives through all of this, which isn't a surprise since last year's iPhone 7 did well, too. There are some things to note from this video

LG Q6+ launches in India with extra memory

Image
After a month-long wait, the LG Q6+ was officially launched in India. It’s the same bezel-less mid-ranger as the regular Q6 but you get more memory (at a higher cost, of course). The Q6+ is available now with 4GB of RAM and 64GB storage, putting it closer to the G6 flagship. However, the performance chasm between the two remains – Snapdragon 435 just isn’t very fast. That may have been okay for an INR 15,000 device ($235/€195), but it’s going to be a tough sell at INR 18,000 ($280/€235). To be fair, that is still half the price of the full fat LG G6. It's on pre-order still, and there's no information on exactly when the handset will start shipping, but it can't be long now. Source: gsmarena Source Follow us on Twitter Like our page on Facebook

That's down from the usual INR 46,000 ($715) price tag the phone usually carries at the retailer's website.

Nokia 9 renders show bezel-less design

Image
Not quite what this schematic showed, but these Nokia 9 renders show a hip bezel-less design. The fingerprint reader leaves the front for a cozy place below the dual Zeiss camera on the back – nice and centered, low and easy to reach. On the front is an alleged AMOLED display with a curved glass (the back glass is curved as well). GFXBench claims that the screen will measure 5.3 inches, same as the Nokia 8. Company reps hinted that the 9 will have a larger screen, but even if GFX wasn’t exactly right we’re probably looking at 5.5” tops.

Samsung finally allows you to disable the Bixby key

Image
When Samsung announced the Galaxy S8 flagship, they came with a dedicated button for a new in-house assistant named Bixby. That however didn't go well with those, who didn't want to use the virtual assistant and only got bothered when they accidentally pressed the key. Now, almost a month after making the digital service available worldwide, Samsung decided to allow Galaxy S8, Galaxy S8+ and Galaxy Note8 owners to turn off the dedicated key for it.

New image of upcoming Gionee M7 leaks

Image
An image of the upcoming Gionee M7 smartphone has leaked, giving us a better idea of its design. The focuses on the back of the handset, revealing a dual camera setup and a metal unibody. While we can't confirm whether or not the leaked render is legit, it's not the first time we are hearing about dual rear cameras on the M7.

Image
Turns out the rumors were correct, as Google has officially launched a new mobile payments system in India. As expected, Tez uses Indian government-backed UPI (Unified Payments Interface) platform, and is compatible with all major UPI-supporting banks in the country.

Virgin Mobile pre-orders for iPhone 8 go live on September 22

Image
Virgin Mobile is a Sprint MVNO which decided to only offer iPhones to new customers a couple of months ago or so as part of its new business strategy. Members of Virgin’s Inner Circle (which offers perks on the carrier and Virgin’s airline) and new customers can begin placing their pre-orders for the iPhone 8 and 8 Plus starting on September 22. Yeah, Virgin Mobile is a bit late to the party, but hey, better late than never. Pre-ordered devices will begin shipping on September 29. Oh yeah, and those part of Virgin’s Inner Circle can get a free year of unlimited service (soft-capped at 23GB per month) for $1 (not a typo), just pay taxes and fees for service every month, which come out to a few dollars per month for the first 12 months. A standard rate of $50 per month applies after the promotion.

iPhone X's A11 crushes top Android competition in Geekbench

Image
The iPhone X did another quick run of Geekbench to solidify itself as the fastest smartphone around. Apple's upcoming flagship scored even more than it did last time and trounces all the top smartphones around. Granted benchmarks aren't great at making cross-platform comparisons, but the difference is still impressive. The A11 Bionic chipset has nearly doubled the single-core score of the A10 Fusion, which was already ahead of the Snapdragon 835 and Exynos 8895 Octa. Interestingly the A11 Bionic has the highest multi-core score, a first for an Apple chip.

Here's how much it costs to fast charge the new iPhones

Image
Apple finally brought wireless charging and fast charging to the iPhone lineup but you can't have it right out of the box. The supplied 5W charger in the iPhone 8, 8 Plus and iPhone X retail box is the same old charger Apple has been bundling for ages. In order to have fast charging you need to buy a separate charger and cable. And they won't be cheap, either. Apple has tested the new iPhones with the USB-C 29W charger it supplies with the 12-inch Macbook as well as the 61W and 87W power adapters. The 29W charger costs around €59/£49/$49. Then you'd need a USB-C to Lightning cable, which goes for €29/£25/$25.

As more people pre-order, iPhone 8 and 8 Plus shipping estimates lengthen

Image
Apple kicked off the first wave of iPhone 8 and 8 Plus pre-orders today and the initial stock is already beginning to dwindle. At the beginning of the day buyers from most of the 29 countries that made the first wave of sales were seeing shipping times between 22 and 25 September but now shipping estimates are falling back to between 1 and 2 weeks.

Apple iPhone X production cost estimated at $412.75

Image
Apple announced the iPhone X with an eye-watering price of $999 on September 12. Industry insiders in China did an investigation how much each component costs and came up with the total cost of the iPhone X. The sum is $412.75, or 60% cheaper than the retail price. The most expensive component is the 5.8” OLED panel manufactured by Samsung. It’s price is $80 per unit which is way higher than any other part. The NAND memory, acquired from Toshiba is $45 for 256 GB. The 3 GB RAM is half - only $24.

Image

Shipments for pre-orders and actual sales begin next Friday, September 22.

Google to launch a new payments product in India dubbed Tez

Image
While Google is expanding its mobile payments service Android Pay slowly and steadily, India - world's second-largest smartphone market - is still not among the list of countries where the service is available. That, however, doesn't mean the company doesn't have any plans for the Asian country. According to a new report, the search giant is readying to enter the Indian digital payments market. And no, we are not talking about Android Pay here. The report says the company will very soon launch a entirely new service dubbed Tez, which means fast in Hindi, one of the country's official languages. In fact, one of the staff writers of the publication whose report we're citing also tweeted a screenshot of Google's application for Tez submitted back in June this year to Indian government's agency dealing with trademarks, design, and patents.

Apple iPhone X screen-to-body ratio compared

Image
Calling the new breed of phones “bezel-less” is a bit of a misnomer – they do have a bezel, just much smaller than traditional phones. Still, it’s how they’ve come to be known and now even Apple makes one. But screen to body numbers get thrown around and some of them are not quite accurate. Things like rounded corners and display cutouts make things yet more complicated, but we took the time to calculate the actual numbers, accounting for all the deviations from the classic rectangular screen.

Nougat update starts hitting Samsung Galaxy A9 Pro

Image
Samsung has started pushing out a new update to its Galaxy A9 Pro smartphone. Arriving as firmware version A910FXXU1BQHB and weighing in at just under 1.3GB, it's a major update that bumps the OS version to Android 7.0 Nougat. The update is currently hitting units in India, although other markets (like China and Malaysia, where the device is available) should also get it sooner than later. OTA roll outs are usually gradual, so be patient if you haven't received the update yet - it shouldn't be long now. Source: gsmarena Follow us on Twitter Like our page on Facebook

Google is offering Pixel XL as replacement for defective Nexus 6P units

Image
Google is offering users with defective Nexus 6P units (purchased directly from the company's online store) a brand new Pixel XL smartphone as replacement. This has been reportedly going on for some time now, but came to light recently. Even units out of the original 1-year warranty are eligible for the upgrade. It's worth mentioning that whether or not you'll get a Pixel XL as replacement depends on your region. Reportedly, those in the US and Canada are definitely getting it, while users in UK aren't lucky enough (it's a hit and miss there actually). Australians, on the other hand, are only receiving the Nexus 6P as replacement.

Quad-camera Huawei G10 (Maimang 6) gets official on September 22

Image
How many cameras can you put in one smartphone? Huawei seems to think the current answer to that question is 4. That's how many cameras the upcoming Maimang 6 sports, as revealed by TENAA yesterday. The device we mistook for the Mate 10 is in fact the newest member of the Maimang series for China. These handsets are sold in other countries as the G line, with the Maimang 5 being rebranded to Huawei G9 Plus last year. So it stands to reason that the Maimang 6 would be called Huawei G10 outside of China (and that name neatly aligns, number-wise, with the P10 and Mate 10 to suggest it's from the company's 2017 roster). Huawei has issued an official teaser image which also serves as an event invite for the Maimang 6's introduction on September 22. The 18:9 screen is obviously there, even if we only see its outline. This will probably be the first Huawei handset launching with that elongated aspect ratio, but the Mate 10 will follow on October 16. The Maimang

7 reasons to upgrade to the iPhone 8/8 Plus (and a couple not to)

Image
So you have an iPhone 7 or iPhone 7 Plus and after yesterday's keynote you are unsure if there's any reason to switch to the iPhone 8 or 8 Plus. Or maybe you're just looking to find how much of an upgrade the new models are. Either way you've come to the right place. We went through all differences between the new iPhone 8 Plus and found 7 solid ones to justify an upgrade over the 2016 to the 2017 iPhones.
