Truecaller adds SMS spam filtering functionality on iOS

Truecaller has updated its iOS app to add support for SMS filtering. After updating to the latest version the app will attempt to filter spam messages and separate it into a second folder.


The addition of this feature is courtesy a new feature in iOS 11 that enables third party applications to filter incoming messages and sort them into a separate SMS Junk tab that appears in the Messages app when you use an app that lets you filter messages. These applications can use keyword detection or machine learning algorithms to figure out if incoming messages are spam or useful and then sort them accordingly.


Truecaller is now tapping into this new functionality in iOS 11 to enable this feature. Once you update the app, it will guide you how to enable it (Settings > Messages > Unknown & Spam > turn on Truecaller). I'm not quite sure if Truecaller uses simply keyword filtering or machine learning to determine if an incoming message is spam or not and we will have to use the app further to determine how effective it is at blocking spam and allowing actually useful service messages through.

Update: After a day of use the app is yet to block any spam SMS. You are better off installing something that actually works like SMS Shield.

Updated Google Contacts app makes it easier to get rid of duplicates

Google is pushing out an updated version of its contacts management app, bringing some of the features available in the web version to the Android app. The v 1.5 update reorganizes the user interface of Google Contacts. Instead of the two tabs – all and favorites – the app now just displays your entire contact list, with a sidebar menu available via the hamburger button on the left. Opening that up reveals a new section for managing duplicate contacts. That’s a feature that was present on the web app of Contacts , but the process was more convoluted on the Android app. You can now also add labels to your contacts, making it easy to organize large contact lists based on groups, for things like family, work, or school. LG showcases new rollable 65” OLED display

LG Display used CES 2018 in Las Vegas to officially unveil its new OLED displays - one of them being a 65-inch 4K flexible screen that can be rolled like a newspaper. The other is an 88” 8K OLED panel that we told you about last week. The flexibility of the 65” OLED display makes it easier to transport or store in the corner. Its small size allows for better space utilization, meaning you can take the TV anytime, anywhere and “enjoy bright, high-resolution content”. LG Display will also showcase its latest upgrades of the IPS technology.
