The Nokia 9's curved all-glass front looks like it warrants a case

Image
HMD's next flagship, the Nokia 9, could be right around the corner and will likely have no headphone jack, but in return it will have IP67 water and dust protection certificate. The Nokia 9 will have an all-glass front and back with a metal frame in between, similar to Samsung's recent flagships, which means that it's highly possible the Nokia 9 will have wireless charging. The design has been extensively leaked through a number of Nokia 9 cases that are already on sale on Amazon. The cases show the phone's 18:9 screen as well as the dual-camera and fingerprint reader on the back. It's very likely that HMD will announce the Nokia 9 before the end of the year but there's no telling when the phone will available for purchase. YouTube unveils stories-like feature for creators called “Reels”

Image
YouTube has unveiled a new feature for creators called “Reels”. This is YouTube’s official spin on the popular stories format first popularized by Snapchat before it took off on Instagram. The feature is an expansion to YouTube’s efforts to join creators with their fans on a more intimate level with YouTube Community, a place where creators can post updates and snippets between video releases. Unlike Instagram and Snapchat stories, YouTube’s Reels will not necessarily expire after 24 hours. They can be kept forever, and they can be organized into different events or projects. For instance, a creator can post video Reels to a folder from an all-day event.

Android 8.1 fixes Google's previous absurd emoji designs

Image
You may remember few weeks back someone noticed that Google's burger emoji in Android 8.0 was all sorts of wrong, with its cheese below the patty and being an affront to all burgers and humanity in general. Then someone discovered the beer glass emoji was only half full (or half empty?) but still had a massive head of foam on top.

YouTube Go no longer in beta, available in India and Indonesia

Image
YouTube Go is Google’s way of ensuring that even those who can’t access a mobile data connection as freely as others in more developed parts of the world can watch YouTube more freely. Google’s first initiative was to offer the ability to download videos for offline viewing later on the YouTube App. You can do this in other regions, however, a YouTube RED subscription is required. YouTube Go is a lightweight version of the YouTube App whose Beta launched back in April of this year for India. The app is no longer in Beta and has a stable and public release on the Play Store in India and Indonesia.

Razer Phone gets scratch, burn, and bend tested

Image
The Razer Phone became official at the beginning of this month, and went on sale shortly after that. Thus you can already buy one, but should you? We tried answering that question in our comprehensive review, but maybe you're most interested in how the device would fare in a scratch, burn, and bend test.

Razer CEO justifies removing the headphone jack on their new phone

Image
In many ways, the new Razer Phone is a dream come true for many Android fans who covet the absolute best in terms of hardware, with an enviable spec sheet that should make the industry stalwarts sit up and take notice. But one area where the spec sheet felt lacking was the headphone jack. After all, this phone is being marketed to enthusiasts and as such you would expect a headphone jack on it. Razer's CEO, Min-Liang Tan, has taken to Facebook to clarify the reasons for not having a headphone jack on their new phone. Tan mentions that by not having the jack take up space inside, they were able to increase the battery capacity by as much as 500mAh and improve thermal performance.

Deal: LG G6 for £363 on Amazon

Image
The V30 may be the hottest LG phone these adys, but the LG G6, introduced in February, is still a pretty solid device. And now you can own one for as low as £363.20 on Amazon. This is a 42% discount from the original asking price for a 32 GB unit in either Astro Black or Platinum Ice color. Sure, it’s the smaller memory option, but LG G6 has a microSD that can take up to 256 GB storage. With a great camera and one of the first 18:9 ratio screens, the LG G6 sure sounds like a steal if you can overlook the fact that it's rocking a Snapdragon 821 chipset, which was last year's top dog. Samsung Galaxy A5 (2018) shows off its Infinity Display in a case

Image
As this year nears its end, we're getting ever closer to the launch of Samsung's Galaxy A (2018) series, comprised of follow-ups to the Galaxy A (2017) devices of course. Today the upcoming Galaxy A5 (2018) has been leaked once again. This time around we get to see it inside a case, in four different color versions. As rumored extensively before, the A (2018) family will sport Infinity Displays, and the A5 is no exception. Samsung is intent on bringing one of the main differentiators of its high-end S and Note lines to the mid-range with the new A series. Like 2017's flagship Samsungs, the new Galaxy A5 will have its fingerprint sensor on the rear.

New leaked image shows the Honor V10 for real

Image
Huawei's online-only sub-brand Honor is getting ready for a big launch event in China on November 28. That's when the Honor V10 is expected to be unveiled. The handset has already been certified by TENAA ahead of its introduction, and earlier today we showed you a weird image claiming to depict it in the wild. If you had your doubts about that picture, you weren't alone. Thankfully though, from another source in China comes what is definitely the first real portrayal of an Honor V10 unit. What's depicted here lines up perfectly with TENAA's pictures, unlike the previously leaked image. That's why we're pretty sure this is in fact the Honor V10, the brand's first flagship offering with a tall 18:9 screen aspect ratio.

Xiaomi starts trade-in program in India

Image
Xiaomi phones already offer great value for money but Mi Home stores in India can improve that. The company is running a trade-in program in partnership with Cashify that will reduce the price of available Mi and Redmi phones. You simply walk into a Mi Home with your old device. The team will tell you its resale value (based on the phone’s condition) and you can use that money towards the purchase of a shiny new handset. You can get a preview of the kind of money you can get over at the Cashify site.

Facebook Messenger now allows higher-res images

Image
Facebook Messenger has announced that it has raised the resolution of photos that are delivered to recipients. If you didn’t know it, messaging apps like Facebook Messenger, Telegram, and Whatsapp all apply some kind of compression before photos reach the person they are being sent to. Here are a few comparisons that show the difference:

The device has already landed in Russia and South Africa, and it looks like the US is among the next batch of countries to receive it. Today the Nokia 2 has gone up for pre-order at online retailers such as Amazon, B&H, and Best Buy. Regardless of where you buy from, the phone will set you back a cool $99. Of course you're receiving an unlocked unit, but keep in mind that it's only compatible with GSM-based carriers such as AT&T and T-Mobile (and the various MVNOs which use their networks). The device will not work on Sprint or Verizon, unfortunately.

Check out the list of discounts below.

Apple to launch three new iPhone X-like devices next year

Image
Now that even the last of Apple's 2017 iPhones is finally available, it's time for the rumors about the company's 2018 lineup to start. Ming-Chi Kuo of KGI Securities is leading the way as always, today releasing a report about the specific smartphones that he expects Apple to unveil next year. The first thing you'll notice about all of them is that they're keeping the design of the iPhone X intact, bezel-less screen and controversial notch included. Thus, all the iPhones of 2018 will be similar in the looks department and similarly devoid of a fingerprint sensor. They will also all feature the TrueDepth camera system on the front. Kuo says the two models with OLED panels will basically have the same top of the line innards. The smaller of these will be the same size as the iPhone X basically, while the other adds an option for people who like bigger devices. The 6.5" behemoth will come with an even higher resolution than the X, aiming for up to 50

Mom's iPhone X unlocked via FaceID by son

Image
Tim Cook joked that the new FaceID of iPhone X can be unlocked by your twin. But it turns out that your kids can unlock it too. That’s what the Malik family found out when 10-year old Ammar unlocked his mom’s iPhone with no issues at all. And he didn’t even need a fancy 3D printed mask as some security researchers have used to get past Apple’s new biometric security. He has his mom’s genes and that proved enough. Here, watch the mother and son team do a demo: Apple claims that the chance of a random person unlocking the iPhone X via FaceID is 1 in 1,000,000, compared to 1 in 50,000 for TouchID. That may be true for a random person, but family members obviously have a much higher chance.

New Xiaomi Redmi 5 Plus render suggests FullView screen

Image
Xiaomi just announced the Redmi Y1 and Redmi Y1 Lite and now another Redmi handset is on its way. A render of the Xiaomi Redmi 5 Plus appeared on Weibo, suggesting the device will have FullView display with 18:9 ratio, which would be a first for Xiaomi. The image, if real, shows a dual camera on the back and a dual-LED flash, all lined in a vertical setup. Below them is a fingerprint scanner in a similar fashion like the Redmi Note 4. Rumors suggest the Redmi 5 Plus will arrive with Snapdragon 625 or the newer 630 and the RAM could be 3 GB, paired with 32 GB of storage. We are waiting for information from Xiaomi about the alleged new Redmi flagship. Until then we’ll keep you updated with all the latest rumors and leaks. Apple is working on a new iPad with Face ID for 2018, according to a report by  Bloomberg . The report states that that this new iPad will have a similar sized display to the current 10.5-inch iPad Pro but will get rid of the current Home button with Touch ID in favor of the new Face ID technology introduced with the iPhone X. Woman wins almost £600,000 with £1 bet after landing 12-fold accumulator

Image
Steve Cook's 92nd minute winner away at Newcastle United earned Bournemouth a much needed three points on Saturday (4 November). What the Cherries defender did not know is that it also won a woman almost £600,000 off a £1 bet. The unnamed woman, who apparently has little interest in football and bets only because her son and husband watch football every weekend, landed a 12-fold accumulator which returned £574,278.41.

Samsung Galaxy S9 mass production could start in December

Image
The Samsung Galaxy S9 could debut as early as January with sales starting in February. The usually reliable leakster @IceUniverse posted on Weibo that Samsung will start mass production in December to meet this earlier deadline (the S8 was unveiled in March, launched in April). Once production starts, Samsung will gobble up the entire first batch of Snapdragon 845 chips for the US-bound phones and supply its own Exynos 9810 chips for most of the rest of the world.

Spy shots of Xiaomi Mi Mix 2s show an iPhone X-style cutout

Image
Et tu, Xiaomi? There isn’t much context to these photos but they allegedly show the Xiaomi Mi Mix 2s – a reworked version of the bezel-less phone that now features an iPhone X-style cutout on top. This moves the selfie camera to a more natural position and should help reduce the bottom bezel, though that is not clearly visible in these shots.

Apple sued for dual camera patent infringement

Image
Coreophotonics, an Israeli maker of dual-lens camera technology, is suing Apple. The company filed a lawsuit in the US District Court in Northern California, where Cupertino is located. Coreophotonics claims that Apple is using its tech in the iPhone 7 Plus and the iPhone 8 Plus. There is no mention of iPhone X in the filing, probably due to the device being launched last Friday. Coreophotonics demonstrated the dual camera technology last year at MWC in Barcelona. It showed how images from both sensors could be combined for a more detailed picture, including an optical zoom up to 5x.

Twitter flips the switch for the new 280 character limit

Image
Today, Twitter has lifted the 140-character limit for its general users to 280. The micro-blogging platform first tested the new limit on a select group of Twitter users, particularly those with large amounts of followers and celebrities. The test period took place over about six weeks, during which Twitter has collected some interesting data. Only 5% of tweets sent were longer than 140 characters while only 2% were over 190. Mind you, this data was collected before the limit was changed for the vast majority of Twitter users. We’d be interested to learn if we’ll see long tweets all the time, or if people will just keep it short and sweet as they’ve been doing since Twitter launched.

Drop tests show the iPhone X is more fragile than the iPhone 8

Image
Breaking the screen of your iPhone X will cost you $279 to repair. But if you take Apple at its word that it used the “most durable glass ever in a smartphone, front and back” then it’s unlikely you’ll ever need to pay for repairs. Except reality shatters this illusion, if you’ll pardon the pun. SquareTrade specializes in selling extended warranty for gadgets, so its team puts them through rigorous tests to determine the risk of damage. The scores show increased risk due to all the glass on current-gen iPhones, but the X is especially susceptible.

Samsung Galaxy Note9 project is codenamed Crown

Image
After the Galaxy Note7 debacle, the Galaxy Note8 was one of the biggest tests Samsung ever faced in recent times. Now that the device has been launched, it's safe to say that the company passed it with flying colors. And, as is usually the case, the focus now shifts on next-gen device. While there have already been some related rumors, a latest report is suggesting the next-gen Galaxy Note device - likely to be called Note9 - is internally code-named Crown.

Nokia 5 with 3GB RAM launching today

Image
The Nokia 5 was launched back in July this year, but has only been available in 2GB RAM option all this while. Well, that changes now, as a new 3GB RAM variant of the device is being launched. The new variant - in Matte Black and Tempered Blue colors - will be available in India, where retailer Flipkart will start offering it tonight. As for pricing, the handset carries a launch price tag of INR 13,499 (around $210), which is already down INR 1,800 (around $27) from the usual pricing. Of course, there are some other launch-time discounts as well, including no cost EMIs and additional discounts on certain credit cards.

New Google Search feature lets you compare device specifications

Image
A new Google Search feature has been spotted in the wild. As per those who are seeing it, the feature lets you compare specifications of two devices, displaying a neat comparison chart in output. As clear from the screenshots above, you just need to put in a query like 'Pixel 2 vs Pixel 2XL,' and Google will display a quick comparison chart. You can expand the chart by hitting the blue button, and there's even an option to highlight differences.

Nokia 2 pre-orders are now live

Image
The Nokia 2 was made official by HMD Global earlier this week at an event in India. And now, pre-orders for the entry-level device have gone live. Specifically, Russia has become the first country where the phone can be pre-ordered. As for price, the handset costs RUB 7,990, which currently translates into around €117. This, if you compare, is a tad higher than the €99 tag HMD officially revealed for the phone when it was unveiled. Official release time frame for the Nokia 2 is mid November. Image
It took HTC a while to get here, but it finally has a phone with a nearly bezel-free front. The U11+ has an 18:9 6.0-inch Super LCD6 of 1440x2880px resolution with Gorilla Glass 5 and no physical buttons on the front (the fingerprint scanner moved to the rear). Razer Phone is official with 120Hz screen, 8GB of RAM, 4,000 mAh battery

Image
Razer is officially entering the smartphone space. The gaming-focused company acquired Nextbit back in January, and today it's unveiled the first device to emerge out of that acquisition: the Razer Phone. A simple name hides massive specs, in this case. Design-wise, the Nextbit heritage is clear, what with all the sharp corners. The color scheme is much more business-friendly, however. The Razer Phone is made out an all-aluminum CNC chassis, has a 24-bit DAC, and it boasts two front-facing stereo speakers with Dolby Atmos sound, each with its own amp - and they're certified by THX (a first for a phone). Razer claims it's the loudest handset ever. On the flip side, there's no 3.5mm headset jack, although you do get a USB-C to headphone adapter in the box.

The Gionee M7 Plus appeared in some hands-on images which revealed the front and back design of the phone. The screen is expected to measure 6.43 inches and sport an 18:9 ratio. The screen reveals that the phone will come with the latest Amigo 4.0 UI that Gionee placed on top of Android Nougat 7.

Razer Phone leak reveals 4,000mAh battery

Image
So we already know Razer is entering the smartphone market, and its debut device is coming tomorrow. The device has already been spotted in a benchmark listing, and an alleged image of the phone also leaked a few weeks ago. Now, the handset has been listed on the website of a Three UK affiliate. The listing not only shows the front of the Razor Phone (in low-resolution though), but also reveals some of its key specs. As per the listing, the phone sports a 5.72-inch screen and comes with 8GB of RAM. It features a dual rear-camera setup (12MP+13MP), and packs in a large, 4,000mAh battery. Other details revealed by the listing include Dolby ATMOS sound and Wide Colour Gamut (WCG) display. The device's benchmark outing had revealed some other key details, including Snapdragon 835 SoC, 64GB storage, and an 8MP selfie camera. There's, however, currently no information on the price tag the phone will carry. Source: gsmarena Source  |  Via Follow us on Twitte
