The Lamborghini Urus is the latest $200,000 SUV

Image
This 650-horsepower Lambo claims 190 mph, but also Level 2 self-driving assists and a back seat In the auto industry’s ever-present move toward SUVs and trucks, every company has to jump on board. Even though Lamborghini once made a Hummer-esque SUV (and tractors), the 2019 Urus is its attempt to cash in on a lucrative market for high-performance (and high-priced) SUVs.

2018 Toyota Camry: Bringing back the spyder glory with a touch of Lexus

Image
It’s no stretch whatsoever to imagine that the team creating the 2018 Toyota Camry, just revealed at the 2017 Detroit auto show and bound for dealerships this summer, had to confront some severe performance anxiety. They faced the freedom afforded by the fresh Toyota New Global Architecture (TNGA) platform, signs that Americans are continuing to abandon mid-size sedans, and the reality that the current, inoffensively-yours Camry has actually been selling well despite industry trends. The team, fortunately, was never just going to settle for subtle nips and tucks; CEO Akio Toyoda has demanded more adventurous, stirring designs across the board as part of his aim to purge the boring cars from Toyota Motor Corporation’s lineup. “It's no secret that I like to involve myself in the design process,” said Toyoda, who made the show presentation of the new Camry himself. “My team might call it something else.”

Cadillac is launching a car subscription service for $1,500 a month

Image
Cadillac is launching a subscription service that will allow customers to drive and swap out whatever vehicle they want — be it an Escalade or a CTS-V — whenever they want, for a flat monthly fee. Book by Cadillac is a $1,500-a-month contract-free service that the manufacturer says will eliminate the hassle that comes with owning a vehicle. The service will grant users access to an app which will let you request to swap between current year Cadlillacs including the XT5, CT6, Escalade, and V Series at will, without having to pay extra for registration, insurance, or maintenance, all of which are included in the monthly fee. Subscribers can swap cars up to 18 times per year, as often once per day. Reservations for next-day swaps must be made by 3PM.

Honda unveils first electric ride-sharing concept car: The NeuV concept vehicle has the power to read your mind

Image
Car companies love to say they got there first. It appears Honda may be the first major automaker to show a concept vehicle designed for the ride-sharing market. The NeuV, which was announced Thursday at CES, is an acronym for the New Electric Urban Vehicle. NeuV [noo-vee] is based on the premise that self-driving, electric cars can be put to work rather than sitting idle nearly all the time.

Lamborghini is planning an electric model of the Urus SUV concept car

Image
Lamborghini has been planning the release of its Urus SUV for quite a few years now. First announced in 2012, the vehicle has gone through multiple iterations, each shown off at various auto shows since the initial announcement. Now, the Italian sports car manufacturer is looking to bring this concept into the future, and has revealed that it will be releasing an electric plug-in variant for the launch of the vehicle in 2018. The company is breaking more than one barrier with the release of this vehicle. The car will not only be the first SUV to be offered by Lamborghini, but also its first electric vehicle. While the car isn’t 100% electric, it is a step in the right direction towards a more renewable world.

Fiat Chrysler unveils the autonomous Portal EV concept

Image
Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA) is set to show off an interesting and futuristic looking concept EV at CES in Las Vegas. Called the Portal, it is targeted at millennials and therefore loaded with technology. It comes with a bunch of features including facial recognition and voice biometrics. The facial recognition feature sounds quite interesting as it allows the car to identify who exactly is sitting behind the wheel. Based on that info, the vehicle will then be able to automatically adjust a few settings including the lighting, temperature, and even music.

Mercedes unveils world's first completely electric semi truck

Image
European car companies are starting to invest more heavily in green vehicles. Audi unveiled three more electric cars on Monday and Porsche added 400 jobs to how many it estimates it will create to make its electric Model E come to life. Today, Daimler revealed its milestone that wasn't in the consumer space: The first non-fossil-fuel big rig, the Mercedes-Benz Urban eTruck. Like most electric vehicles, the eTruck is relatively whisper-quiet, especially compared to a typical diesel truck. With a weight capacity of 29 US tons (26 metric tonnes), it's the first electric big rig concept to hit the road, beating out the semi Tesla has been working on that it announced last week.

The Lincoln Navigator Concept is a massive, luxurious land yacht

The new Lincoln Navigator Concept is a massive beast of an SUV. That's not surprising, given that the current Lincoln Navigator is also a massive beast of an SUV.

Bugatti's Chiron Might Be The Most Thrilling Ride At The 2016 Geneva Motor Show

Image
Over the next two weeks, the 2016 Geneva Motor Show will be home to some of the most thrilling rides around the world.   None may pack the kind of punch that the Bugatti Chiron does, though.

2016 Volkswagen Beetle Dune Drive: Far From Baja

Image
Its shape is among the most distinctive on the road; surprisingly, the Beetle is as fun to drive as it looks. Offered as a coupe or convertible, a 170-hp turbo four has a standard five-speed manual for peppy performance; a six-speed automatic is optional. The Beetle Dune gets the automatic only and sits 0.4 inch higher. The 210-hp turbo four R-Line is the hot-rod, with either a six-speed manual or a six-speed automatic. 2015 and 2016 TDI diesels have been stop-saled due to EPA violations.

First drive: the new Lexus RX450h

Image
What’s that? The new Lexus RX – Toyota’s posh, X5-rivalling SUV – tested here in popular 450h form. H means hybrid, no? H does indeed mean hybrid. The RX is powered by a 3.5-litre V6 plus an electric motor on each axle (it’s the rearmost motor that gives you on-demand AWD). Total system output is a little over 300bhp, which makes for an only adequate 7.7second 0-62mph time and a 124mph top speed. It’s not a plug-in, the 450h, so all the energy is regenerated from the powertrain. And while it is capable of running on electricity alone, it can’t go very far or very fast without the engine kicking in. This means the RX is actually more economical around town than it is, say, on a long, motorway cruise at a sustained 70-something mph. Not ideal. Why? Because there’s an awful lot of people who do not live in towns or cities. Lexus claim 51.4mpg (and 127g/km of CO2), but a largely traffic-free 100-mile blat around the M25 and up the M4 yielded an indicated...

Yes, this is the Ferrari of the future

Image
This is it, the winner of Ferrari’s ‘Top Design School Challenge’. It’s called the Manifesto, and it is supposed to embody how the Ferrari of the year 2040 will look. Of course, it’s not real in any way. It’s not even full size. Yet though it’s actually quite small, it represents a big victory for the six design students in charge of its design. Some context, then. Late last year, Maranello set the world’s top design institutes a challenge: to imagine what a Ferrari supercar could look like in 25 years’ time. If that sounds like a long way off, it’s over 20 years since we first saw the Ferrari 355. After whittling down 50 entries from the first round down to eight schools, the competition then went down to three models each from four different institutes. That’s twelve.
