Xiaomi Redmi Pro is going to use Chinese-made OLED panels

Image
Xiaomi announced the Redmi Pro at a special event yesterday, and this is the Chinese company's most high-end Redmi-branded device ever. One thing that stands out in its spec list is the fact that it uses an OLED display. That's not something you'd expect to see in a phone that starts at $225 - because OLED panels are notoriously more expensive than LCDs. Yet if you do get a phone with an OLED screen, then that panel is probably made by Samsung, since the Korean company apparently holds a market share of almost 95% in the space. Well, that expectation isn't being met in the Xiaomi Redmi Pro.

Samsung Galaxy Folder 2 is now Bluetooth certified

Image
After being spotted on Zauba and FCC, the SM-G1600 - which is alleged to be the Samsung Galaxy Folder 2 flip phone - has now received certification from the Bluetooth Special Interest Group (SIG), indicating an imminent launch. While the latest certification doesn't reveal anything about the device, from what we've heard so far, the device is powered by a 1.4GHz Qualcomm processor and sports a 3.8-inch touchscreen display. RAM is 2GB, while internal memory is 8GB, although expandable. In terms of camera, the device is said to feature an 8MP rear unit and a 5MP front shooter. It is expected to run Android 6.0.1 out of the box. The FCC listing had revealed a 2,000mAh battery for the device. Source: gsmarena Source | Via Follow us on Twitter Like our page on Facebook

Tizen phones coming to Africa

Image
Samsung is planning to bring its Tizen-powered phones to Africa. According to a new report, the upcoming Samsung Z2 will be launched in African countries like South Africa, Nigeria, and Kenya, in addition to some Asian markets including India, Indonesia, Nepal, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh. The launch is expected to happen sometime in October this year. Z2 will be the first Tizen phone to support 4G LTE as well as remote assistance feature. The report notes that Kenya is upgrading its existing 2G network with an aim to make it 4G capable, while Nigeria is also establishing 4G infrastructure, so it would be relatively easy for the South Korean company to capture the market there. Finally, the report also says that Samsung also intends to use these African markets as test-beds for its Tizen-based IoT infrastructure. V10 successor arriving this quarter, LG confirms

Image
LG has confirmed that a new V series smartphone will be launched sometime this quarter. While the South Korean company didn't reveal the device's name, it's reasonable to expect that the handset in question is the successor to last year's V10. The time frame revealed by LG is inline with a recent report that said the phone - alleged to be called V20 - will be made official in the month of September, which is less than a year after the V10 was launched. The confirmation on the V20's arrival time-frame came as part of LG's Q2 2016 earnings announcement. While the company recorded an overall operating profit of $503.1 million, the mobile unit was still at loss - the figure stood at 132.10 million this time. Report says Galaxy Note7 will come with Samsung's Cloud service

Image
A couple of weeks ago, it was revealed that Samsung has filed a trademark for something called "Samsung Cloud Together" in Europe, with details confirming that it's actually a cloud storage service for phones and tablets. Now, according to a new report, the service will carry the 'Samsung Cloud' moniker and will debut on the South Korean company's upcoming Galaxy Note7 smartphone. Needless to say, the service will allow users to backup their data to the cloud. This will not only help save storage space on their device, but will also let them access backed-up data from any of the supported devices. Galaxy Note7 users will get 5GB cloud storage for free, the report notes. As for Galaxy Note7, the report says the device will feature the latest Gorilla Glass 5 protection, and a USB-C to microUSB adapter will be included in the box. Samsung Galaxy Note7 stars in 11 minute long video

Image
Earlier we saw a very short video of the Samsung Galaxy Note7, just a few seconds. Time for the feature length movie - a whole 11 minutes spent with a Note7 prototype. The hardware is not final and the software indicates it's for Korea's SK Telecom. And it's an Exynos version, Exynos 8890 with 4GB of RAM to be precise. The camera is a Sony IMX260, though we'll likely be seeing Samsung's sensor as well, same as with the S7.

Facebook will refund app and game purchases made by minors

Image
Parents, take note: if your child bought in-app or in-game purchases on Facebook without your knowledge or consent, you can get your money back. A California court has ruled in favor of the plaintiffs in a class action lawsuit originally filed by two kids and their parents back in 2012. The judge ordered the social network to provide refunds at parents' request. Those kids bought Facebook Credits (now known as Facebook Payments) using their parents' cards without their consent and racked up a few hundred to a thousand dollars in debt.

Mercedes unveils world's first completely electric semi truck

Image
European car companies are starting to invest more heavily in green vehicles. Audi unveiled three more electric cars on Monday and Porsche added 400 jobs to how many it estimates it will create to make its electric Model E come to life. Today, Daimler revealed its milestone that wasn't in the consumer space: The first non-fossil-fuel big rig, the Mercedes-Benz Urban eTruck. Like most electric vehicles, the eTruck is relatively whisper-quiet, especially compared to a typical diesel truck. With a weight capacity of 29 US tons (26 metric tonnes), it's the first electric big rig concept to hit the road, beating out the semi Tesla has been working on that it announced last week.

Google finally announces Play Family Library, up to six members can share purchases

Image
Despite the fact that it's been available to some people for around a couple of weeks now, Google has only made the Play Family Library feature official today. As we revealed back when it first started going live, this essentially lets up to six people share purchases made across Google Play - be those for apps, games, movies, TV shows, or books. All of these items can be shared on Android, while movies, TV shows, and books can also be enjoyed on the Web and through Google's apps for iOS.

"iPhone has become one of the most important, world-changing and successful products in history," said Cook. "Last week we passed another major milestone when we sold the billionth iPhone. We never set out to make the most, but we’ve always set out to make the best products that make a difference."
