OnePlus 6 arrives in June with Snapdragon 845, CEO reveals

Late last year a purported list of smartphones arriving in 2018 with Qualcomm's Snapdragon 845 chipset on board got leaked, and it mentioned the OnePlus 6 would be launching in June. Now in an interview with CNET, OnePlus CEO Pete Lau has confirmed both of those details.



"There's no other choice" for his company than the Snapdragon 845, Lau said. The handset is scheduled to launch late in the second quarter, which ends on June 30. The CEO hasn't actually confirmed the OnePlus 6's name, but logic dictates that's what it will end up being called.


Lau apparently isn't 100% sure if OnePlus will out a second device in 2018 (a 6T), but given what's happened in the past two years we'd say that's obviously a possibility.

Finally, the Chinese company is open to partnering up with US carriers for sales of its handsets. "If the right opportunity and right timing come along, we'll be very happy to experiment", Lau said, but declined to give any details as to when a deal might be struck. It will be interesting to see if OnePlus actually manages to persuade US carriers to go this route, especially in the light of Huawei's recent failure to do so.

Updated Google Contacts app makes it easier to get rid of duplicates

Google is pushing out an updated version of its contacts management app, bringing some of the features available in the web version to the Android app. The v 1.5 update reorganizes the user interface of Google Contacts. Instead of the two tabs – all and favorites – the app now just displays your entire contact list, with a sidebar menu available via the hamburger button on the left. Opening that up reveals a new section for managing duplicate contacts. That’s a feature that was present on the web app of Contacts , but the process was more convoluted on the Android app. You can now also add labels to your contacts, making it easy to organize large contact lists based on groups, for things like family, work, or school. Xiaomi Mi 5C announced with the first in-house Xiaomi processor

Many companies and start-ups are at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, but Xiaomi decided to go against the flow and had its own event today at the National Convention Center in Beijing. It had two major announcement - its first in-house chipset named Surge S1 and a Xiaomi Mi 5C smartphone, powered by the new processor. Xiaomi Mi 5C has 5.15” display, a 12 MP main camera and a 8 MP snapper on the front for all the selfies on Weibo. There is a fingerprint scanner on the front and you have 3 GB RAM and 64 GB internal storage. The battery of Mi 5C is 2860 mAh and the device comes with Android 7.1 Nougat and MIUI out of the box. This whole setup is powered by octa-core Surge S1.
