LG unveils world's first 88-inch 8K OLED display

LG has announced the world's first 88-inch 8K OLED display. The display is all set to be gawked at CES 2018 later this month.

Since this is an OLED panel, LG was able to make it as big as it is and with 8K resolution without compromising on brightness, which LG is quick to point out is an issue for LCD panels of similar size and resolution. To combat that, LCD panels have to bump up their brightness, which increases power consumption, which is not an issue with the LG OLED panel.

There is not much known about this panel other than its size and high resolution. Note that this is just a panel, and is yet to make it to an actual TV.

We don't know yet when we will see it in any commercial product, or if we even need to any time soon, considering there is no native 8K content available outside of a handful of YouTube videos. This is more of a proof of concept to wow showgoers than something you can expect to see in a living room this year.
