Pixel Launcher fully ported for non-rooted devices

Developer AmirZ on Reddit has successfully created an APK of a port of the Google Pixel’s launcher. It’s based on AOSP’s Launcher 3 and can be installed to any Android phone. If you want to read how the developer was able to succeed in the port of the app, check out the source link below.

With the demise of the Google Now Launcher, there is no longer a launcher that offers an alternative launcher experience from Google. Giving everyone the option to use the launcher that was offered on all Nexus devices was really cool. Not to mention it integrated Google Now right into the left page of the launcher.

Then came Pixel Launcher. As Google’s vision for its self-released smartphone shifted from Nexus to Pixel, along came a new and updated Pixel Launcher, one that would effectively replace the Google Now Launcher until it was discontinued back in March.

Everything on the ported launcher works including the “G” pill, Google Now, and the weather/time widget. There used to be an issue that broke widget scrolling when you swiped up, but that appears to have been fixed in “Pixel” v1.2.

To install, head to the source link and look for the Github link. From here, you can download and install the APK assuming you’ve allowed to install apps from unknown sources. Just make sure you don't have Pixel Launcher already installed, or the weather widget will not work.

Updated Google Contacts app makes it easier to get rid of duplicates

Google is pushing out an updated version of its contacts management app, bringing some of the features available in the web version to the Android app. The v 1.5 update reorganizes the user interface of Google Contacts. Instead of the two tabs – all and favorites – the app now just displays your entire contact list, with a sidebar menu available via the hamburger button on the left. Opening that up reveals a new section for managing duplicate contacts. That’s a feature that was present on the web app of Contacts , but the process was more convoluted on the Android app. You can now also add labels to your contacts, making it easy to organize large contact lists based on groups, for things like family, work, or school. LG showcases new rollable 65” OLED display

LG Display used CES 2018 in Las Vegas to officially unveil its new OLED displays - one of them being a 65-inch 4K flexible screen that can be rolled like a newspaper. The other is an 88” 8K OLED panel that we told you about last week. The flexibility of the 65” OLED display makes it easier to transport or store in the corner. Its small size allows for better space utilization, meaning you can take the TV anytime, anywhere and “enjoy bright, high-resolution content”. LG Display will also showcase its latest upgrades of the IPS technology.
