Instagram adds location and hashtag Stories in the Explore section

Over the past few months or so, Instagram has been relentlessly adding new features almost every week. Sure, most of those have been 'inspired' by Snapchat, but it's still interesting to note how it doesn't seem to want to slow down in this respect.

Case in point: today the Facebook-owned social network has added two more features - location and hashtag Stories can now be found in the Explore section.



When you enter the Explore tab, you'll see a Story ring at the top, showcasing Stories that are happening near you. These come from people who have used location stickers. When you search for any location in the world, the Story ring will be there at the top too - with the best Stories happening in that spot.


Hashtag Stories are coming to Explore too. These will help you easily find Stories that are related to your interests - or any specific hashtag, really. So when you search for a hashtag, a Story ring might be at the top of the page, filled with Stories that use that hashtag. These are created by people who have used location hashtags in their Stories.



If your Story is shown in such a way, a line at the top of your Stories viewer will tell you how many people saw it. If you want to use location or hashtag stickers but don't want your Story to appear in Explore, just tap the X in your Stories viewer list.

Location Stories are available in Explore starting with Instagram version 10.22, which is now rolling out through the iTunes App Store for iOS and Google Play Store for Android. Hashtag Stories in Explore will be landing in the coming weeks.

Updated Google Contacts app makes it easier to get rid of duplicates

Google is pushing out an updated version of its contacts management app, bringing some of the features available in the web version to the Android app. The v 1.5 update reorganizes the user interface of Google Contacts. Instead of the two tabs – all and favorites – the app now just displays your entire contact list, with a sidebar menu available via the hamburger button on the left. Opening that up reveals a new section for managing duplicate contacts. That’s a feature that was present on the web app of Contacts , but the process was more convoluted on the Android app. You can now also add labels to your contacts, making it easy to organize large contact lists based on groups, for things like family, work, or school. LG showcases new rollable 65” OLED display

LG Display used CES 2018 in Las Vegas to officially unveil its new OLED displays - one of them being a 65-inch 4K flexible screen that can be rolled like a newspaper. The other is an 88” 8K OLED panel that we told you about last week. The flexibility of the 65” OLED display makes it easier to transport or store in the corner. Its small size allows for better space utilization, meaning you can take the TV anytime, anywhere and “enjoy bright, high-resolution content”. LG Display will also showcase its latest upgrades of the IPS technology. The panels now have IPS nano-color, “which expresses rich colors using nanoscale high-color reproduction particles, and IPS technology, which increases the transmittance and reduces the intensity of light reflected on the panel.”, said the company in a press release.
