No curved OLED screen for LG G6, Korean media reports

It’s a little silly to talk about the cancellation of certain internal development plans for next-gen Android flagship phones when said intentions were never officially confirmed. They weren’t even rumored, or at least no such gossip made the headlines on the Western Hemisphere.



Over in LG’s homeland, insiders apparently spoke of a possible dual-curved G6 to follow the suit of numerous Samsung devices already while preceding the late 2017 iPhone 8 (7s?) on the “edgy” bandwagon.

That’s no longer the case, it seems, as the down-on-its-luck Korean OEM stumbled into “supply issues”, according to local press, also pushing back the commercial rollout of an innovative high-speed resonant wireless charging feature.

Worse yet, the likely still modular LG G6 may not be able to adopt a new all-metal look with some sort of a “glass cover” either, this one due to “cost issues”, requiring a last-minute design change that we’re afraid means the G5 will probably be rehashed. And we don’t need to reiterate the lack of mainstream appeal of the company’s first modular experiment.

Ironically, while the LG G6 could arrive in stores too early for in-house curved OLED displays to be ready to rumble, the iPhone 8’s release timing sounds perfect. Let’s wait and see if Apple will feel comfortable picking up an unproven screen though.

Updated Google Contacts app makes it easier to get rid of duplicates

Google is pushing out an updated version of its contacts management app, bringing some of the features available in the web version to the Android app. The v 1.5 update reorganizes the user interface of Google Contacts. Instead of the two tabs – all and favorites – the app now just displays your entire contact list, with a sidebar menu available via the hamburger button on the left. Opening that up reveals a new section for managing duplicate contacts. That’s a feature that was present on the web app of Contacts , but the process was more convoluted on the Android app. You can now also add labels to your contacts, making it easy to organize large contact lists based on groups, for things like family, work, or school. The Nokia 3310 is back, but it's not exactly a pretty sight

Just like the rumor-vine predicted, HMD didn't skip on the opportunity to ride the nostalgia wave and reincarnate the legendary Nokia 3310 for a second go on the 2017 mobile scene. We are sure opinions will be polarized on the EUR 49 feature-phone, but that definitely fits into the whole idea. Whether you find it unsightly, or enjoy its colorful and playful looks, the new 3310 will definitely get fans talking, even if not necessarily buying. Again, as far as design goes, you will just have to judge for yourself. The new 3310 measure only 115.6 x 51 x 12.8 mm and is plastic all around. HMD claims it did the best it can to recreate the original 3310 rounded shape and silhouette. The rounded buttons on the retro keypad definitely hit home. However, the 2.4-inch QVGA display and the curved and polarized layer on top, do look a bit off. So do the buttons on the front.
