Viber has announced that in the light of the US immigration ban it will be offering free calls to the countries affected by this. This includes free calls to mobile and landline in the following countries: Iran, Iraq, Libya, Somalia, Sudan, Syria, and Yemen. You probably don't know this, but Chrome OS is pretty successful in the US. At one point devices running it even outsold Macs. Most of that success comes from the education market, which is really satisfied with the simplicity, security, and manageability of Chrome OS, all coming in somewhat of a contrast to Windows. It also helps that Windows on cheap devices doesn't make for a great user experience, but that might change soon. Maybe. According to a new rumor and some finds from the Windows 10 SDK, Microsoft is working on a new SKU for its operating system.

We know that Samsung will not reveal Galaxy S8 at MWC but in the late March. Apparently this isn’t going to be the only release - the company also plans to launch Active Noise Cancelling wireless headphones, an update to the already well-known wired Samsung Level in ANC headphones. The Korean manufacturer promises reducing of ambient noise by up to 20db for a “more immersive listening experience”. The headphones will also have a new feature called “Talk-In Mode” that enables listeners to hear outside sound when someone calls their name. Nokia and Orange have partnered up to develop the future 5G mobile networks. Key updates include “Ultra Broadband” and Internet of Things support. Nokia’s infographic on 5G details the possibilities of a 5G network, which will go far beyond mobile phones. Everything from smart clothes to road toll collection is on the cards. This approach will greatly increase the number of “users” on the mobile network, be they your smart fridge or a robot in an automated factory (Nokia expects billions of connections). This will be achieved with “Dynamic Network Slicing” which will allow the carrier to configure its networks for many various use cases and requirements and run them simultaneously on the same equipment.

Silent Circle, the company behind the security-focused Blackphone 2, is taking aggressive steps to curb proliferation of “grey market” Blackphone sales on channels like eBay or Craigslist. Customers who bought Blackphones from unauthorized sellers risk ending up with bricked devices, Ars Technica reports. An update to Silent OS, the Android-based operating system that powers the device, is disabling core functionality for some users. One customer in Germany, who bought a Blackphone 2 off eBay, was told by Silent Circle that his bricked phone is not genuine.
