Nintendo announces Super NES Classic, goes on sale September 29

Nintendo’s NES Classic was constantly out of stock, including the day it launched, and whenever it was in stock, it was out shortly after. So you could understand why people were upset to learn of Nintendo's discontinuation of the NES Classic edition. The discontinuation also prompted rumors about Nintendo’s possible plan to release a Super NES Classic as well.

Well before this upcoming holiday season, Nintendo is going to release the Super NES classic on September 29 with a retail price of $80. You’ll be able to play with one or two players with the two included wired controllers over an HDMI connection.

The Nintendo Super NES Classic will have the following games:

  • Contra III: The Alien Wars™
  • Donkey Kong Country™
  • EarthBound™
  • Final Fantasy III
  • F-ZERO™
  • Kirby™ Super Star
  • Kirby’s Dream Course™
  • The Legend of Zelda™: A Link to the Past™
  • Mega Man® X
  • Secret of Mana
  • Star Fox™
  • Star Fox™ 2
  • Street Fighter® II Turbo: Hyper Fighting
  • Super Castlevania IV™
  • Super Ghouls ’n Ghosts®
  • Super Mario Kart™
  • Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars™
  • Super Mario World™
  • Super Metroid™
  • Super Punch-Out!! ™
  • Yoshi’s Island™
So, when Nintendo said that it had to discontinue the NES Classic due to "lack of resources", we now know that it wasn't making any mistake, it needed the resources to release another successful Classic-edition console. It's shaping up to be a great year for Nintendo.
