Samsung offering free Gear VR to make up for the delayed Galaxy Note 7 launch in India

Unless you’ve been completely off the grid, you’ve probably heard by now about Samsung issuing a global recall of their flagship Galaxy Note 7 to avoid any further risk of damage from battery explosions.

While consumers in India don’t have to worry about the recall, the unfortunate news is that the launch of the device, that was set for September 2, has been delayed indefinitely.

To make up for the delayed availability, Samsung is offering those who pre-ordered the Galaxy Note 7 the latest version of the Gear VR headset for free, as well as a $50 (~Rs 3,300) Oculus content voucher, to help you make the most of your new accessory.

Customers who pre-booked the Galaxy Note 7 could have also ordered the new Gear VR headset at a discounted price of Rs 1,990 (~$30), but even if you haven’t, you will still be eligible to get the headset now for free. If bought separately, the new Gear VR headset is priced at Rs 7,290 (~$110) in India.

While there is no information on when the Galaxy Note 7 will now be available, those who have pre-ordered the smartphone will receive a message on their registered email address or mobile number once Samsung sets the date.
