Moto M (XT1662) pictured with rear-fitted fingerprint sensor, likely measuring 5.5 inches after all
Compact smartphone
enthusiasts unwilling to compromise… too much on raw power and other
specifications appeared to have at least two solid sub-5-inchers from top-tier
OEMs to look forward to this fall, but at the end of the day, the diminutive
Sony Xperia X might be left alone on that boat.
Originally
expected to be branded Moto X 2016, and then Moto M, the elusive 4.6-inch
XT1662 has just made its way to China for Tenaa’s regulatory certification, and
surprise, surprise, it’s substantially larger than anticipated.
That’s obvious
from product images, as well as a listing of some key features, 5.5-inch
display, 3,000 mAh battery, and 151 x 75 x 8mm dimensions included. Also of
note, the no doubt 1080p-capable upper mid-range Android stands out from the
Moto Z family in the aesthetics department with what seems to be a full-metal
build (antenna bands and all), plus a circular fingerprint reader positioned
beneath a G4-like rear-facing camera.
No more iconic M
Bat-dimple in tow, with a much lower-profile company logo moved near the very
bottom of the handheld’s back cover. Interesting new design approach, but we’re
still left wondering about the screen size and other important specs of this purported
Moto M. If it’s even called that after all.
